A touch of gold in the kitchen?

A touch of gold in the kitchen?

The UK’s first ever kitchen display featuring real gold surfaces has been unveiled.

Grid Thirteen, which is exclusively affiliated to world renowned luxury brand SieMatic, has installed the ‘opulent’ showpiece at its studio in Leeds, offering the discerning buyer the chance to own a genuinely exclusive kitchen.

Priced at over £150,000 the installation features SieMatic’s S2 kitchen in natural walnut and matt lacquered Truffle Grey, incorporating the Dornbracht, Sieger designed Supernova 23 carat gold plated sculptured tap.  The centre piece is covered with hand gilded 22 carat gold leaf glass which is completely bespoke with no two pieces being the same.  The display incorporates the SieMatic pocket door system with precision engineering and a range of integrated products from the Miele ‘M’ touch range which Grid Thirteen is one of only three dealers outside of London.

Michelin Star superchef Nigel Smith & Miele hosted the launch with a cooking masterclass where he fittingly created the world’s most expensive gold laced desert, priced at £500 per dish.

He said, “It is inspiring to see that Grid Thirteen is pushing boundaries with the audacity to bring flamboyant design for accessibility to buyers in Yorkshire and indeed the whole of the UK. And why not?!  I have been cooking for over 30 years and I can honestly say that cooking on real gold surfaces is a first for me. The kitchen is the heart of the home and for many it has become a centrepiece for entertainment and family life.  There are designs to suit all tastes but following the launch of the new Grid Thirteen concept, nothing else quite compares to the experience of cooking and eating from a real gold surface!”

“At the event I created a signature dish exclusively for the new display at Grid Thirteen incorporating. ‘Rich’ is a chocolate fondant laced 23 carat edible gold leaf, which I believe to be the most expensive desert in the world.”

Grid Thirteen is owned and run by Natalie Fry, former designer and multiple award winner for Poggenpohl.  With over 20 years industry experience, working with some of the UK’s most prolific interior designers and architects, she is at the forefront of design innovation and trends but also has a sense of what clients want and need for a fully functioning kitchen.  One of Natalie’s Yorkshire designs was recently ranked in the ‘top 5’ in the Worldwide Brand Book, featuring her project in over 450 countries.

She said, “I am absolutely thrilled with the new installation and the feedback so far has been immense.  The new display is the ultimate in luxury kitchen furniture, although not as delicate it may appear. We have had the 22 carat gold leaf hand gilded behind 10mm toughened glass, a material that is incredibly hardwearing and we can achieve millimetre precision drainer grooves into the glass with the water jet process. This is a real show stopper with clients visiting from all over the UK to see the opulent showpiece.  I took a brave decision to allocate valuable sales space to introduce a concept so extravagant, however we have attracted great interest from a number of high profile clients following the launch.”

Grid Thirteen offers the very latest collections from SieMatic and cutting edge appliances/accessories from the likes of Gaggenau, Miele, Dornbracht, Spekva, Westins and a range of Italian designer lighting companies, for which many of the products are exclusive to the studio in Leeds.

Situated right opposite the legendary Flying Pizza, Grid Thirteen promises to offer an all-embracing experience of the modern day kitchen, inspiring visitors not just through stunning product displays but also through live demonstrations and role play.
