Top budget-friendly makeover ideas

Redecorating a living room can become extremely expensive without a plan of action. The bills will add up very quickly and you will find yourself spending a lot more than you bargained for. But giving your living room a new lease of life does not have to cost you an arm and a leg. With the right guidance, you can transform your room into a warm, cosy interior that speaks volumes.

Today, I have compiled a short list that will help you alter the way you and your guests will look at your living room, and without breaking the bank.

Wall stickers

Wall stickers can be extremely cheap and can offer a living room the attention it deserves. Wall stickers are best used on a plain wall, free from picture frames and mirrors. That way, the wall sticker won’t be fighting with other decorations for attention.

A popular wall sticker used is a silhouette of a tree. Additional features such as coat hooks can be added to the branches to give it more character.

Magic mirrors

Having a small living room doesn’t mean it has to look cramped. Mirrors offer a great solution to opening up a room and making it look more spacious and brighter. The best way to do this is to hang mirrors opposite windows to reflect light back into the room.

You can also hang them behind room features/accessories such as flowers or candles to accentuate their effects.

Cozy cushions

Never underestimate the power of a throw cushion. A well chosen cushion can simply make or break a room. If your cushions match your sofa, do yourself a favor and give them away to your local thrift shop.

Your cushions should be there to make a bold statement about the room. While you’re at the thrift shop, hunt around for some bargain cushions that could add style to your new look living room. Allow your new cushions to work and blend with other colours in the room.

Stylish rugs

Just like cushions, a well placed rug can make quite a statement and is a cheap alternative to replacing the furniture of the room. A rug can help define separate areas such a dining and seating areas. Bear in mind that identically sized rugs can cut the room in half visually which can be unappealing.

Picture frame wall collage

A picture frame wall collage is a great way to give a living room a focal point. It is important to position your collage in a place where it can be enjoyed from afar and up close. Behind a sofa deters people from viewing the pictures closely, which is one of the joys of a collage.

Visiting your local flea market could present the perfect opportunity to picture up some great picture frames for a bargain. Painting each frame the same colour, but using different styles of frame is a great way to give your wall collage personality.

Simple sofa cover

Buying a brand new sofa or reupholstering an old one can end up being expensive. Adding a beautiful throw or sofa cover can instantly transform the look of your old couch. Where a custom made throw can also be expensive, buying a single coloured cover or even making your own can work wonders.

Trust mother nature

Buying flowers is one of the quickest, cheapest and most effective ways to add colour and character to your living room. On top of that, flowers will of course add a fresh smell that keeps inviting people back. Trust Mother Nature to give your living room a new lease of life.
