Time For Tea?

Time For Tea?

There is scarcely a more civilised activity these days than to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of tea served from a teapot with biscuits or cakes. This is ideally served as afternoon tea, but could be a mid-morning treat or enjoyed as part of your after-work wind-down in the evening. The East India Company has launched a particularly indulgent Festive Hamper range. It was with great pleasure that we sampled a selection of delicious teas and biscuits from this festive range.

The East India Company’s 400-year history and explorer’s spirit has been harnessed to create a range of luxurious hampers, each with its own story to tell.  This festive season, the brand has focused further on bespoke hampers, offering the possibility to select foods tailored to individual tastes, and the ability to customise packaging as well. Each hamper is filled with the finest flavours, from the quintessentially British to the wonderfully exotic – ranging from £30 to £1,500 and beyond.

We sampled the following items from this exclusive range:

First Romance Black Tea Pouch - £12.00

A colourful selection of delicious fruits and flower petals brought together to create a very special fruit- tea blend. A touch of fruity and creamy sweet exotic flavours will delight your senses and excitement of a first romance. Laced with strawberry, mango and orange.

This was a delicious tea that is perfect at any time of the day. It is refreshing and light to the taste. It’s a tea that’s best enjoyed alone rather than accompanied by biscuits, which might detract from its lovely floral taste.

Governor Aungier's Bombay Chai Tea - £12.00

Honouring the vibrancy of Bombay and the legacy of Gerald Aungier, president of the East India Company in 1699, the East India Company’s Bombay Chai Loose Tea blend infuses black tea with fragrant cinnamon, clove and cardamom. This is the choice tea for a multitude of festivities.

This tea is a rich blend beautifully suffused with festive ingredients that makes it an ideal warming and soothing drink for the festive season. It would suit accompaniment with a fruit cake or biscuit, but could equally well be served by itself, due to its rich and festive flair.

Indian Twelve Spice Filled Biscuits - £5.95

Adapted from a 19th century French recipe, the delicate and flaky shell of this biscuit gives way to a soft, cheesy centre filled with a variety of Indian spices. Enhance its sweetness with a pot of the East India Company's Staunton Earl Grey, or else a chilled espresso.

Pink Peppercorn Chocolate Bar - £5.00

Pink Peppercorns have just the right amount of heat and muskiness to excite the taste buds. They allow for a controlled burst of flavour and intensity that is balanced by classic creamy milk chocolate.
