Black and white monochrome style has always been synonymous with style. It’s a statement look for the home and has never dated. Home UK Magazine speaks to Samantha Davies, head of marketing at The Kitchen Restoration Company www.kitchenrestoration.co.uk  – the UK's leader in handcrafting bespoke kitchen door and drawer fronts - on the trend that is monochrome.

Samantha gives her expert opinion on why black and white is a key trend that is particularly suited to creating the perfect modern kitchen this year:

“A black and white colour scheme in the kitchen can give a super stylish and modern feel to what is the heart of the home. What we are seeing coming through in 2015 is more of a fun take on the use and placement of monochrome – as well as complimenting with bold splashes of bright colours.

“Monochrome trends of the past have seen black and white used in quite a regimented and uniformed style. This year we are seeing the use of quirky textures, black and white tile patterns, and feature artwork and accessories in the kitchen take centre stage, as well as using high gloss, matt painted and textured door and cupboard fronts combined to complete the contemporary look.”

Samantha continued: “Monochrome doesn't have to be serious, so for an added element of 'kitsch' have some fun with retro black and white artwork or accessories and low hanging stainless steel pendant lamps. Combining with solid natural wood work tops and metro tiles also gives a cool industrial feel which is another key trend for 2015.

“To keep it stylish, major on either black or white as the primary colour, then build on this by adding elements and touches of the other. An even split of black and white in a kitchen can leave it feeling more 'Austin Powers' than 'Sleek and Chic'. So, for example, use white as the base colour then have some fun introducing elements of black and accessorise with subtle splashes of bold colours and different textures to break up the theme. A feature wall or work top works really well with this look.”
