Save Your Spare Room From Storage!

Save Your Spare Room From Storage!

All too often, our spare rooms end up being a dumping ground for all of the clutter in the house. This is such a shame because you’ve got a room that has the potential to be great, but instead it’s just been turned into a big store cupboard. The possibilities are endless, so why not clear out all of that junk and turn your spare room into something useful instead? Here are some top tips on making the most of the extra space in your home.

Make It Multi-Functional

If you’re clever about it, you can turn that one spare room into two or three. Putting a large bed in the room will take up most of the space, making it difficult for you to use it for anything else. A good way around this is to buy a sofa bed from somewhere like Chesterfield sofas, that way you can have a comfortable sofa most of the time, but you still have a bed if guests come to stay. This will free up space to put in a desk if you want an office space. Another great use for a spare room is to turn it into a home cinema. All you need to do is clear one wall, and buy yourself a projector, and you have your very own cinema screen. Alternatively, you could cover the walls with some bookshelves and put in lots of comfy chairs and beanbags, creating the perfect reading room. If you are a bit of a fitness fanatic, then think about creating your own home gym. If you think carefully about the equipment that you put in, and your storage, it is possible to create a spare room that doubles as a home gym when you need it to.

Clever Storage

If you are still going to use the room to store all your old junk, clever storage solutions will allow you to use the room for other things as well. Choosing furniture with storage inside it means that people have a place to sit, and you have a place for all of the old clothes that you might wear one day. Ottoman beds are brilliant for space saving, as they have a large amount of storage in them. However, this does mean that you won’t be able to fold it down.

If you don’t have space for bedside tables in your spare room, then you could try mounting small ledges on the wall. You’ll still have somewhere for people to put their things at nighttime but you don’t have to take up huge portions of the room with large pieces of furniture.

Decorating

A lot of people spend most of their time decorating the rest of the house, but neglect the spare room. It usually ends up being a boring magnolia, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You should make good use of color, to make your spare room just as unique as the rest of the house. It is also a good place to experiment with decoration, because if it goes wrong, you won’t necessarily be using it all of the time. Try out different things, if you don’t like it then you can always change it afterwards.
